MEXICAN AT ITS BEST!

Frida 800x336

TORONTO, CANADA, FRIDA RESTAURANT REVIEWED   // BY AIMEE COLON
Many of you know about my obsession with Mexican cuisine and my never-ending quest to find the best examples of it in North America. I have reviewed many restaurants in the past, but none has come close to Frida's, a real jewel that I discovered on a recent trip to Toronto. Yes, Canada. That may surprise some of you, as it did me, to think that you could find warm Mexican food in typically cold Canada, but let me tell you, it was the best Mexican dinner experience I had had
in a very long time.

The inspiration for Chef Jose Hadad’s Mexican cuisine comes from one of Mexico’s most talented
and controversial artists, Frida Kahlo. His menu demonstrates an understanding of the complexity of the Mexican cultural traditions while achieving a fresh approach to the cuisine. This West Toronto restaurant is authentic Mexican at its best!.

The restaurant’s contemporary décor combines Mexican style with a chic twist that conveys relaxation and romanticism. Frida's is the perfect place to celebrate an anniversary or share a special dinner with friends. For food enthusiasts like me it’s all about the flavor and the originality of the dishes, and at Frida's that is exactly what I found. Not only does Chef Jose Hadad incorporate authentic Mexican flavors in his creations, he also embraces other influences such as European fusion with an eclectic twist.

Here you will find typical Mexican plates such as Pollo Pibil, and Tacos de barbacoa but let me be clear that there is nothing average about these exquisite dishes. Everything is cooked to perfection with a delicious blend of flavors, including and one of the most delicious mole sauces I’ve ever had.

So if you find yourself in Toronto craving superb Mexican food with a unique twist, head over to the Forest Hill neighborhood in West Toronto for a visit to Frida’s. You will not regret it.

INSIDER TIPS:

I highly recommend the Chile Relleno Poblano, poblano peppers stuffed with Oaxaca cheese, wrapped in egg batter, and then covered with tomato sauce and epazote spice. They are simply delicious.
